Named San Francisco’s favorite dance workout, Rhythm & Motion classes pair the challenge of learning choreography and movement technique with the dance-floor euphoria of a good party. Teachers are encouraging trained dancers, classes are heart-pumping but low-pressure, and everyone leaves sweaty and smiling. All are welcome!
Heather Bornfeld felt sheer exuberance when she took her 1st dance class at age 4. While as young adult and aspiring musical theatre performer she trained in ballet, jazz, tap and musical theatre dance, but the fear of not being "good enough" plagued her experiences in the studio. She rediscovered her true joy in movement while taking Rhythm & Motion, Latin Dance Grooves, and Afro-Brazilian classes. Watching her own children move their bodies through the world with abandon inspired her to become and R&M Teacher in 2015. Teaching Rhythm & Motion is the perfect companion to her other work as a trauma-informed clinical psychologist. She believes that integrated movement like dance are powerful practices of personal and collective healing.
Maggie Connard is a teaching artist and performer who graduated with a BA in Dance from Point Park University. In addition to Rhythm and Motion, she teaches barre fitness, ballet, jazz, tap and musical theatre dance. Maggie started her professional career as a contemporary dancer, performing with EmSpace Dance, Leyya Tawil's Dance Elixir, Deborah Slater Dance Theatre, and Printz Dance Project, among others. Most recently she has been excited by the fun of musical theatre and has performed in local productions of "A Chorus Line”, "Singing in the Rain", "Chicago", "Cabaret", "White Christmas", “The Magic Lamp” and “Sleeping Beauty”.
Maggie absolutely adores teaching R&M and feels so grateful to be a part of this long-standing, welcoming and loving community. She strives to help students feel welcome and accepted in her class. Busting a move daily is required for her own well-being and she believes that when we feel better, we do better. She hopes to make the world a better and more endorphin-filled place through dance.
Rena Marie Guidry has been an actor, dancer, and choreographer for over 30 years, in both Los Angeles and the Bay Area. She studied ballet, tap, jazz, hip hop, modern, salsa, liturgical, and samba. She has done commercials, films, has performed in self-produced dance theater productions, and been a guest performer for several Latin dance companies. Rena Marie has led high-energy, packed classes with Rhythm & Motion since 2011, and teaches Hip Hop Jazz technique classes. She also brings her love of dance to people outside of the studio, leading retreats both locally and globally. Rena Marie is a trained Drama Therapist, with a Masters degree in counseling psychology and she has mindfulness leadership training. Rena Marie believes the arts are inherently therapeutic and can be used to bring about healing and wellness.
